We want to create a more harmonious relationship between the outdoor community and our natural world.

who we are

Hi there! I am Stephen Cousins, the Founder of Bluebird Exchange C.I.C

We are an Edinburgh based Social Enterprise driving social and environmental change in the outdoor community through local circular economy initiatives.

social enterprise

We are registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

A CIC is a special type of limited company which exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders.

In short: we are trying to do something positive for the local community rather than just making money.

community focused

We think grass-roots community action is the best way to make an impact. That's why the majority of our work and donations come from the local Edinburgh outdoor community. You'll often see Stephen whizzing about on his bike picking up donations or dropping things off.

our objectives

1

keep outdoor gear in circulation

We reclaim, repair and redistribute outdoor gear to ensure it is kept out of landfill and in circulation.

2

create an inclusive outdoor community

We work with local councils and organisations to reclaim and redistribute outdoor clothing to people who wouldn't otherwise have access to these items. We hope this can help get more people enjoying the benefits of outdoor activities!

3

promote circular economy

We are raising awareness of the environmental issues caused by the existing linear economic model that dominates the outdoor industry while also promoting the benefits of transitioning towards a circular economy founded on ideas of re-use, repair and sharing.
