CHANGING THE STATUS QUO
"The highest contributor to the carbon footprint of clothing is the production of fibre through polymer extrusion or agriculture." - WRAP, Valuing Our Clothing
Our mission is to stop the reliance on mass production and instead make the most out of the gear we already have. This will reduce waste, increase product lifecyles and help us move towards a cleaner planet. Bluebird is a community of environmentally responsible brands and individuals who have come together to sell and buy used, returned or ex-warranty outdoor products.
SAY YES TO INCREASING PRODUCT LIFECYCLES.
Every use counts.
Buying and selling used outdoor equipment and clothing increases the product lifecycle. Extending the product lifecycle of an item of clothing by just an extra nine months can reduce its carbon, water and waste footprints by around 20-30%.
SAY NO TO LANDFILL.
Be more circular.
Selling used outdoor gear dramatically reduces product waste and unlocks huge amounts of untapped value. The result is simple; less stuff ends up in landfill and more money ends up in your pocket. Bluebird aims to move away from the landfill heavy linear economies of the past and towards the sustainable circular economy of the future.
THE CLIMATE MISSION
We take our environmental agenda very seriously and are constantly seeking new ways to engage, educate and empower our community. The following projects are things we have been working on recently.
Creating conversations and talking about the issues facing the outdoor community is imperative. We saw the positive impact this can have from our Citizen of Winter event so we decided to keep releasing conversations with inspiring, innovative people in an attempt to further our understanding and find some solutions. CITIZEN OF WINTER
In October 2020, we hosted the Citizen of Winter online festival alongside One Tree at a Time and Montagne Verte. It was a jam packed week full of workshops, talks and panel discussions all aimed at making our next snow-sports adventures more sustainable. Check out all of the informative conversations and materials from the festival by clicking on the link below.
Repair and maintenance is crucial in extending the product lifecycles of our goods and reducing our environmental impact. We therefore decided to team up with Three Zero to create some simple 'how-to' videos to let you start maintaining and repairing your kit from home. Need help with edging, waxing or simple repairs? We have got you covered.
We have again teamed up with One Tree at a Time and Montagne Verte, this time to tackle the single-use plastic problem in snowsports. Sign our petition and call for brands and retailers to remove all unnecessary plastic packaging from their mountain sports equipment.
Working together to save our mountain environments.
